Reverse osmosis systems are composed of pre-treatment and RO main units. Depending on the user's material and water quality requirements, the selection of RO membrane types can be customized. The RO membrane is a high molecular materials-based process membrane that allows only water molecules to pass through while rejecting solutes.
Using a pump to apply high pressure, water molecules from the feedwater can permeate through the membrane to the other side when the pressure on one side of the semi-permeable membrane exceeds the osmotic pressure, resulting in purified water. However, dissolved and undissolved inorganic salts, heavy metal ions, organic substances, bacteria, colloids, and other substances in the feedwater cannot pass through the semi-permeable membrane and are discharged with the concentrate.

In contrast, a typical PP cotton filter cartridge has a pore size of 5 micrometers, and an ultrafiltration membrane has a pore size of 0.01 micrometers.
